PERSONAL: THIS BLOG IS....

What is this blog? I've been thinking a lot lately about it. What is this blog really about, what do I want it to include? Is it a lifestyle blog, a fashion blog, a fitness blog or just a general mix of everything?

So I have been trying to decide what I really want out of this blog... I guess the question I've been asking myself is;

Do I really want to continue blogging?

Or do I just want to take some time out?

I have been blogging since 2011, but about three years in, I decided that I hated my blog and scrapped it to start again- the only trouble was that I wasn't in a great place to start over.

University hasn't been the easiest experience for me and I lost myself completely on my year abroad in France. I was lonely, angry at the world and I really didn't want to deal with anything outside of my bedroom. With hindsight, it wasn't such a great idea to start over and create a new space on the web to start sharing my (not so great) opinions...

I dabbled slightly in fashion and beauty but if I'm being really honest, I don't love it. I adore doing my make up and playing around with different looks, but for me, it was tedious to take pictures and try to pose when I hated the way I looked. So the new blog lost momentum. Then came my final year at uni and it has just been flat out busy; trying to find friends (after most of mine had graduated), fitting in the work, money problems and keeping fit.... The blog just took a complete backseat! Now that I've finished, it's time to re-evaluate things, including According to Cate.

DO I FINISH WHAT I STARTED?!

So here are the things I do know about what I want from this blog:

  • I'm not here to write for numbers... I don't care how many people I reach-- if I just inspire one person then I will be happy.
  • I want to get fitter, so fitness and running posts will be a frequent thing here, I'm sorry if that's not your thing but it is mine!
  • This is going to be more of a lifestyle blog than a fashion and beauty blog. We have lots of those already and the likes of Zoe London and Katie Snooks do it much better than I can!
  • I want to remember that this is my hobby. I don't want to be riddled with guilt if I forget to write up a post or if I get super busy. I love you guys but this blog isn't my whole life.
  • Mostly, I want to have fun with it, if it grows then I hope you'll grow with me. If it stays small, I hope you want to stay and if I choose to leave entirely then I hope you'll understand.

But for now, I think I'll give it a shot and try to finish what I started, because after all, you can only ever do your best and that my friends, is always good enough!! :)

  1. I've only just recently started blogging but I'm reading a lot of people who seem disillusioned. I'm looking at mine as a personal thing, a diary if you like, an expression of something that makes me happy (writing). But I'm obviously full of new kid enthusiasm!

  2. I think it's safe to say we all struggle a little when it comes to finding a balance between our hobbies, our studies and work. It's not easy, but you shouldn't make blogging homework... if it's something you genuinely enjoy then I believe you should write until your hearts content, don't force it! x
