A CAUSE WORTH FIGHTING FOR
I don't join every cause and battle there is to fight, that's true, so when I do decide to stand for something you know it means something to me.
I have vegan friends who fight for animal rights, I have feminist friends who fight for women's rights and so on and so forth... I have always been moved by those who are less fortunate but I am a very big advocate of helping yourself out of a jam. This is why I am part of the Zapatista Solidarity movement at uni and how I plan to be a more active member of the cause.......
Zapatista Solidarity Ethics
I'm not great with my words when I'm invested in a cause-- I get careless and stop making sense but essentially we stand with the little people to stop them being stomped on by the big suits in Mexico... Here's a little more information courtesy of the Zapatista Solidarity Essex blog!!
"We stand in solidarity with the Zapatista movement in Mexico and its peoples' struggle for dignity, land, education, human rights and end of the exploitation. Their enemies are our enemies - the big corporations exploiting Earth's resources for the benefit of few, the oppressive governments and their neo-liberal agenda, bringing war, destruction and poverty not just to the indigenous peoples in Mexico but to humanity in general. We are students, workers, lecturers and we believe that injustice should be fought and it's us who must do it. Another world is possible!"
I used the lyrics from that well known U2 song; Sunday Bloody Sunday in the title of this post because I feel it represents any injustice, any fight and any war. I have had the pleasure of seeing U2 perform this song live and the atmosphere, the emotions that pour out of every lyric are still as raw and intense as they were when they were first sung. Now you may laugh but to the people in Mexico who are being oppressed, this is very real.
Next year when I am back at uni, I will be getting more organised in created and attending events for this cause as I don't think it's being broadcast enough. I've been in this blogging game long enough now to know the effect of social media and you guys so I want to find a way to help out whilst I'm here in France.
So I'll leave you with this incredible video to watch, which was created by the awesome guys and gals at Essex uni and you can decide whether this is a movement you want to get involved with too!
