Lets roll back the clocks to 2008...
I was 16 and in the midst of the emo era (though I will skip the embarrassing photos of me in that time), My Chemical Romance would boom from every angsty teens tinny mobile speakers while we all sported fetching liquid eye liner. I was listening to my local radio station, kicking back and relaxing after my GCSE exams and this one song came on the radio. No word of a lie, by the end I knew all the words, which wasn't hard as it was Basshunter's "Now You're Gone".
I'll be honest, Basshunter has some catchy tunes but frankly I was raised on The Prodigy and Ministry of Sound classics... My parents are actually totally badass! So whilst Basshunter had his pop melodies, I spent many an hour bending awkwardly in the cupboard under the stairs like Harry Potter, trying to dig out some 90s dance tunes. CDs were my life as a teen!
But this wasn't my first rodeo, not by a long shot! Way back when I was about 12 years old, "Pretty Green Eyes" was covered by Ultrabeat. This was the song that peaked my interest in any form of dance music and my God did I want green eyes from that second onwards!

After Basshunter came the wave of Cascada and DJ Sammy and then came Eric Prydz with "Call on me"... Nobody forgets that kind of lycra in a hurry!
Needless to say I have been hooked ever since, much to many people's surprise! Lately I have been addicted to the likes of Eli and Fur (so much awesome), Above & Beyond (they are most definitely all I need) and Netsky (who did an incredible remix of Ed Sheeran's "Don't")... There are SO many more so here are some of my other favourite artists;
- Knife Party
- Deadmau5
- Shy FX
- Prodigy
- Zedd
- Seven Lions
- Krewella
I'd keep going but we'd be here all night! So whilst I may love the likes of Iron Maiden and Nirvana, no one is going to tell me not to dance like nobody's watching! ;)
